An industrial modern house for a family of 8, beautifully lays on the southwest shore of Lake Waconia and has been designed by ALTUS Architecture + Design. The house celebrates the natural surroundings by integrating natural materials and lots of transparent walls.

The oak trees near the shoreline are 200 years old, and they are organized as a bold sculptural response to the lake and trees.

The total surface of the lot on which the house has been built measures 5,500 square foot as the home is designed to promote the outdoors and the active lifestyle of the family.

The living room resulted into a two-story atrium with glass walls on the north and south edge capturing daylight throughout the day and inviting views through the house to the trees and lake beyond.

An indoor swimming pool is both the relaxation and activity space of the family, with direct access to the lakeside of the house.

The first floor is spread into two wings - one includes the master suite and an exercise room, and the other integrates the children’s wing with two bathrooms, laundry and two level loft bedrooms for 6 children.

Various elements of the design are differentiated especially in the materials used on the exterior. The ground floor uses mainly warm white stucco, while the master wing is a deep auburn brick, and the children’s wing is wrapped in wood planks with a black-brown stain and black aluminum panel edge details all under a dark bronze metal roof.

More, concrete floors with radiant heat, a steel stair, and perforated blackened steel ceilings in the living room and kitchen convey a rigorous modern aesthetic and reduced cost to the finishing of the space.
